Not just the needles – Tattoo ink is connected to infections

by Ben

(NaturalNews) The pain associated with tattoos is usually geared toward the needles; this time, the ink is the culprit. At least 14 cases of skin infections have appeared in New York within the last year, and others have been found in Washington, Colorado and Iowa. When traced back to the original source, what appears to be the cause? Contaminated water.

The patients in these cases have turned up with what appears to be an allergic reaction: a rash at the site of the tattoo with a number of small red bumps. While an allergy to tattoo ink is possible, the symptoms examined have actually been diagnosed as cases of Mycrobacterium chelonae.

Mycrobacterium chelonae is a form of mycobacteria commonly found in nature, notably in drinking water. If left untreated, it can lead to various syndromes, such as lung disease, ocular disease and joint infections. It can also cause a secondary infection if it spreads. It has been noted that tattoo parlors may provide ointments for infection, but these ointments are unlikely to have the proper effect on this bacteria. Unfortunately, chlorination has no effect either.

Treatment and recovery takes at least six months, and the initial diagnosis is often difficult to pinpoint.

Tattoo artists sometimes dilute ink with distilled or purified water. One of the cases in Colorado linked an infection to a parlor with this unsterilized practice. In the New York cases; however, it was found that the artist’s procedures were not the cause. The investigation then moved to the manufacturers, and the bacteria was identified in samples taken. It is suspected the contamination occurred from unsafe practices or tainted ingredients.

Getting a tattoo has always posed various health risks. An artist should always use new, sterilized needles and wear surgical gloves. Parlors and workstations should be kept clean. This recent outbreak of infections demonstrates, though, that no matter how safe and clean a shop and its artists are, there is still always potential for complications. Those getting tattoos should be aware of the symptoms of Mycrobacterium chelonae and seek medical attention if they believe they may have been infected.

Is your home making you sick?

by Dr. Veronique Desaulniers

(NaturalNews) Most people may not give this a second thought, but perhaps the environment in your home may be making you sick. There are literally hundreds of factors that could be affecting the safety factor of your home. Let’s take a look at a few of the most potential sources of dangerous toxins.

1. Furniture and fixtures

The worst culprit in the home is formaldehyde. It is classified as a known human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. It is a colorless and flammable chemical that is used in building materials, furniture, carpets and many household products. It is even found in “wrinkle-free” and preshrunk clothing. Significant sources of formaldehyde are fuel-burning appliances such as gas stoves and kerosene heaters.

Since this toxic gas may be floating around in your home, try to keep your home well ventilated, especially at night. Live, green plants help oxygenate your home and absorb many toxins.

2. Cleaning products

The average household has over three gallons of toxic cleaners in it. The most dangerous chemicals are “ethylene based glycols that are used in floor cleaners, paints, plastics and in synthetic fibers. According to the EPA, this water soluble solvent is classified as a hazardous air pollutant.
Cleaning products that contain bleach (floor cleaners, dishwasher and clothing detergents, bathroom cleaners) and similar disinfectants can react to create volatile chlorinated compounds.

A 2008 European study found that inhalation of these chlorine-based compounds could “significantly increase the cancer risk.”

Eliminating toxic cleaning products can be as simple as purchasing “green” and non-toxic products at your local natural market. For the more adventurous cleaner, you can make your own. Vinegar and water is a great disinfectant and degreaser. Baking soda sprinkled with clove oil can be used to scrub and disinfect your bathroom.

3. Pest control

Insecticides that are sprayed in your home contain chemicals that affect your nervous system, your endocrine system and hormones and may even be carcinogenic. For a non-toxic approach to insect problems in your home, refer to this NaturalNews article: http://www.naturalnews.com.

4. Dry cleaning chemicals

Ever wonder what that distinct smell is on your clothes when you bring them home wrapped in plastic from the dry cleaners? That chemical smell is PERC or percloroethylene. PERC breaks down into several byproducts like carbon tetrachloride, a known liver carcinogen.

Make sure you remove the plastic wrap and aerate your clothes in the garage or outside for 24 hours before you wear them.

5. EMF’s

Would you ever consider your Wi-Fi router and computer as sources of dangerous toxins? Electro-pollution has been labeled the deadliest toxin on the planet. You don’t see it, feel it, smell it or taste it, but it is affecting you 24/7. Educate yourself about scientifically validated products that help to neutralize the effects of the EMF’s. Unplug your router at night and don’t have any active electronics in your bedroom when you are bedding down for the night.

Obviously, we can’t live in a bubble and remove ourselves from ALL toxic exposure. However, if you take small steps to clean up your personal environment and slowly reduce your toxic exposure then hopefully your home will truly become a safe haven.

The top 12 fresh produce items with the most chemical pesticides

by John McKiernan

(NaturalNews) With all of the different pesticides used to grow fruits and vegetables today you may wonder if it’s safe to eat any non-organic produce at all. The answer is yes, you should still be eating five servings of fruits and vegetables every day, whether they are all organic or not. Of course organic produce is better, but for many people the price difference is too great so they stick to regular produce, which is understandable.

A diet rich in fruits and vegetables outweighs the negative consequences of pesticide exposure. With that being said, there are some fruits and vegetables that are low in toxic pesticides and others that are much higher. If you can only afford to buy some organic produce this guide will help you shop wisely, so that you can avoid as much toxic residue as possible while still conserving your money.

The dirty dozen

The EWG (environmental working group) cleverly calls the 12 fruits and vegetables listed below the “dirty dozen” due to their high levels of pesticides, when compared to other produce. If possible, purchase the following organic produce.

1. Apples
2. Celery
3. Strawberries
4. Peaches
5. Spinach
6. Nectarines
7. Grapes
8. Sweet bell peppers
9. Potatoes
10. Blueberries
11. Lettuce
12. Kale/collard greens

The clean 15

This next group of 15 produce are known by the EWG as the “clean 15”. They are the lowest in toxic pesticides, so if you’re going to buy non-organic produce, these would be the ones to buy.

1. Onions
2. Sweet corn
3. Pineapples
4. Avocado
5. Asparagus
6. Sweet peas
7. Mangoes
8. Eggplant
9. Cantaloupe
10. Kiwi
11. Cabbage
12. Watermelon
13. Sweet potatoes
14. Grapefruit
15. Mushrooms

Consuming foods from the clean 15 will lower your pesticide exposure a whopping 92% when compared with the dirty dozen. By choosing five fruits and vegetables a day from the clean 15 list you’ll consume fewer than two pesticides per day, whereas consuming five fruits and vegetables a day from the dirty dozen will cause you to ingest as many as 14 different pesticides every day.

What is this information based on?

This information is based on an analysis of 51,000 tests for pesticides conducted from 2001-2009 by the USDA and the FDA on 53 popular fruits and vegetables. The produce in the tests were rinsed and peeled so that they would simulate the conditions in which they are normally consumed.

How bad are pesticides?

We don’t have enough data on long-term pesticide exposure on humans, but it is likely that Americans are polluted with far more pesticides than current studies report. Not surprisingly, pesticide manufacturers and the companies that use the pesticides claim there is no link between pesticide exposure and health risks. It’s this type of outlandish claim that should make Americans question exactly how dangerous pesticides are and the possible long-term health effects of them. Pesticides are designed to kill living organisms. With that in mind we should all make an effort to purchase, at least the more toxic produce, in the organic section.

Skyrocketing ground beef prices hit record highs

by J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) As drought conditions persist well into late summer across the majority of U.S. states, agricultural production continues to be well below normal, meaning consumers will literally be paying the price for so much crop destruction.

One product where that has already begun to happen is beef; in fact, ground beef prices are skyrocketing, and based on a combination of Mother Nature and government action, prices are likely to remain elevated for the foreseeable future.

In fact, according to Labor Department data, the price of ground beef hit a record high in the U.S. in July, rising to an average of $3.085 per pound, up from $3.007 in June.

Before June, the average price of 100 percent ground beef had never topped $3.00, the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, which has been tracking ground beef prices since 1984, said.

“The beef has gone up about a dollar a pound since January,” Mitch Scott, co-owner of Glenwood Smoked Products in Idaho Falls, told local media, adding that prices now are the highest he’s seen since opening his store in 1983.

The bad news is this: It’s going to get worse before it gets better. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is already predicting prices for meat and dairy products will increase 3.5 percent to five percent next year alone.

Hiking prices on a staple for families

Experts say prices should drop as summer winds down, but they are likely to rise again around October or November, as western states begin to feel the trickle-down effects of the drought that has devastated the Midwest.

Why does it matter how expensive ground beef is? Because it’s a staple meat for millions of American families who use it – or used it – to stretch their grocery dollars. It’s so versatile and, at one time, inexpensive, it was a meat product that could be used for a number of inexpensive meals.

Not anymore.

In fact, since January 2009, “the price of ground chuck has outpaced overall inflation. Had it tracked overall inflation, it would be $3.16 per pound now instead of approximately $3.45, ” CNSNews.com reported.

Does Washington have a dog in this inflation hunt? Yes, say some economists, who directly attribute Obama administration meddling to higher prices for meat and other farm commodities, like corn – now and down the road.

While the White House isn’t responsible for the drought, it is responsible for policies it is crafting as a result of the drought, says a recent editorial in the Washington Examiner. Responding to an announcement by the president during a campaign swing through Iowa in mid-August that the USDA would buy $150 million worth of farm products, the paper said the additional “spending program” would “harm American consumers” while “protecting a corrupt (subsidy) program.”

“Prices are low, farmers and ranchers need help, so it makes sense,” Obama said. “It makes sense for farmers who get to sell more of their product, and it makes sense for taxpayers who will save money because we’re getting food we would have bought anyway at a better price.”

Because government knows best…

But what about later, when prices skyrocket because the law of supply and demand kicks in?

“A drought is currently driving down corn production. The shortage of feed is forcing livestock producers to slaughter animals early, putting downward pressure on meat prices in the short run and guaranteeing shortages and higher prices next year,” the paper said. “But nature is not the biggest factor in this crisis — the government is. Specifically, the federal government’s ethanol mandate, which requires that 13.2 billion gallons of corn-based ethanol be produced in 2012.”

Continuing, the Examiner explained:

“Thanks to the ethanol mandate, more than 40 percent of the nation’s corn crop now goes into the production of a useless fuel that hardly anyone would buy if the government didn’t require it. That’s up from just 17 percent in 2005, before the mandate went into effect. Only 36 percent of the corn crop now goes for feed, and 24 percent goes for food.”

“Obama could solve this problem instantly by suspending the federal ethanol mandate — something his EPA actually can do unilaterally and legally. Instead, Obama will buy up meat — a move that meat producers say won’t help them much anyway,” said the editorial.

So a natural disaster has been made more disastrous.

Readers of NaturalNews fully realize how inane a policy it is believe it is to burn our food supply. We’ve regularly railed against it.

Now, throw in an unforeseen element – a drought – and viola: We have another disaster that would otherwise have been lessened were it not for the meddling policies of the federal Leviathan.

Upcoming iPhone ‘appcessory’ detects whether or not food is truly organic

by Dr. Keith Nemec

(NaturalNews) Breast cancer is the number one cancer that kills women. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation have proved that there needs to be a more comprehensive approach to healing this disease. The answer can only be found when one truly understands that breast cancer is not caused by physical factors alone but like all disease, is holistic – meaning it only manifests when the body, mind, emotions and spirit are out of balance. When these four are in harmony, the stage is set for complete healing to occur.

Breast cancer must be looked at from an environmental and emotional perspective. So what makes cancer cells form and become so aggressive? The answer is found in the environment that the cells are raised in. If a person is laden with chemicals and toxins, if they are deficient in key vital nutrients, if they have had physical trauma or even worse, emotional trauma, all these factors press the button for normal cells to change into cancer cells.

German new medicine protocol

Breast cancer is linked to the emotional shocks of worry, fear and separation. These are not small day-to-day worries but major emotional shocks that usually caught the woman off guard. The first kind of breast cancer is of the mammary gland and is triggered by a worry or argument conflict with a spouse, child, mother or over the loss of the home. The second type of breast cancer is of the intraductal gland and is set off by a separation or fear conflict from a spouse, child, mother or home. In life, the physical is just a manifestation of the mental, emotional and spiritual states. What one sees in their body is a product of their thoughts, emotions and beliefs.

So how can you heal breast cancer? By healing your entire life. Start first by learning how to let go of being dependent upon others. People are made to be with one another but to not be codependent upon each other. If worry, separation and fear are the biggest triggers of breast cancer, then you must begin to emotionally condition yourself to be able to live a life without a spouse, child, home or whatever else you are so attached to that will trigger a disease in the body if its lost. Loss does cause a grieving period but then that time should be finished and you should move on to the next chapter of your life. A person who is at peace with themselves is a person who is healthy in many ways.

Physically, the way to heal is to get at least eight hours of sleep a night, preferably with four of those before midnight, and to eat a diet high in raw vegetables and fruits. Next is exercise; to move lymph fluid (where two thirds of the immune strength is found) and to increase oxygen levels in the body. Cancer cannot grow in high oxygen. Last but not least, is to live a life of reflection and meditation. Stilling yourself enough to be able to listen to the truth that is being spoken into the heart.

Breast cancer should not be something to fear but rather a call to go deeper in this journey called life. Instead of emotionally reacting, it should be a call to rise to the challenge that life has presented, a time to reevaluate each area of life and to seek where physical, mental, emotional and spiritual improvements can be made to make life better than it ever was. What appears to be the worst is really meant to become the best.

GMOs: Exemplifying ‘If It’s Not Broken, Don’t Fix It’

by Gabriel Cousens, M.D., M.D.(H), D.D.

(NaturalNews) Multiple dangers exist in meddling in GMOs when we don’t know what we’re doing, which may be the ultimate validation of the saying, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.” At the same time, multiple more life-affirming, more life-sustaining, healthier, and better ideas exist at our fingertips than genetically engineering food organisms.

The living soil-plant complex has been the evolutionary base of all animal life and humans for millions of years. Humans have been nourished by the genetic instructions of our plants and animals for ages. Introducing genetically modified species upsets the delicate patterns of nature, creating more problems than they solve.

Leaping Blindly into Delayed Yet Grave Consequences

The force of genetic engineering is leaping ahead blindly. GMO development is analogous to early nuclear development, because its future has led us to creating a planet Earth with more and more uninhabitable zones, and a civilization on the brink of annihilation. GMO may be even more grave, because this technology acts on the very blueprint of life itself, as Dr. John Fagan has pointed out.

Let us ask, why might it be that children in a generation brought up on the “green revolution,” which means GMO foods, have IQ’s decreased by up to 10 points? For one thing, approximately 57% of the research done by biotechnology companies is focused on the development of plants that can tolerate larger amounts of herbicides.

This means that many more herbicides are used. Thus, one of the biggest worldwide poisoning problems with GMO plants is their presumed ability to tolerate unlimited pesticides. What we need to remember is that people, especially children, do not have that ability to tolerate unlimited pesticides, which are neurotoxins.

Furthermore, a GMO engineer may decide to remove or modify a gene, resulting in the plant itself cellularly manufacturing more a toxin, or even a new toxin never found in nature before. And this new plant with the new toxin could test as “safe” because you can’t test for a toxin you don’t know about. The harmful effects may then be immediately, or may not be observed for years, but do degrade our society.

GMO foods are a tragic moral, ethical, ecological, spiritual and medical disaster that is already happening, which we have the power to stop. All that is required is that we love ourselves, our children, and grand children and the planet Earth enough to stop it from continuing. Let us remember the power of the marketing of good which occurs by sharing what we are doing in our own lives. Let us responsibly wield our power to make a difference through expressing conscious lifestyle choices, such as:

  • Choosing authentic organic, whole, non-GMO foods, and making it be known to our friends and our shopping places, We will only shop here if you don’t carry GMO foods, or at least you do carry an extensive selection of non-GMO foods.
  • Knowing and supporting your local non-GMO organic farmers.
  • Organic gardening for yourself and spreading knowledge of how to organic garden with others.
  • Acting politically to pass the California, and then other states’, right-to-know propositions.

The benefits will include:

• Personal and family food safety.

• Personal and spiritual communion with the forces of the living planet.

• A body metabolism and nervous system that is open and sensitive to the cosmic and spiritual energy of awakening, and more.

Let us not think our choices do not have an effect, for they do. All of us choosing authentic organic food, makes organic farms more successful. This allows more organic farms to enter the practice, and brings down the prices of organic seeds and produce.

Growing our own authentic foods is a further step we can simply take. Organic gardening supports our ability to have authentic food. It is a powerful way of addressing and solving the food supply problem, and we proactively grow at the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center.

By being focused and committed to the sources of your food, your affect on the places you purchase is also profound. I personally have a graduate student who specifically let his local grocer know that he would only shop there if there were not GMO products and there was a plentiful organic section.

We are a movement in our every-moment choices. We can rebuild the soil and the produce of the Earth from its decimated, poisoned state into, again, the base of an integrated civilization.

Current Action: GMO Labeling Movement

Passing the California proposition is one of the most important actions that people can do at this time for turning the tide of defending our rights and restoring a supply of authentic food. It will save generations from a situation of chronically degenerating health. The implications of the dangers of ingesting GMO foods are exceedingly high. Thus, labeling GMO foods as GMO is a self-protective right and obligation that we must have, for the protection of ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren. In regards to labeling’s utmost importance, the key to remember is one cannot act from an informed self-protective place if we are not given the information – and thus the freedom – to make the informed choice.
