Big pharma ‘research’ suggests all people over 50 should take statins every day for life

Big pharma propaganda has reached a new height in the UK this week, with the release of a new study that appears to show the benefits of taking statins. The report goes on to claim that everyone over 50 years of age should be taking the drug on a daily basis, for the rest of their lives.

According to the report, the benefits of the statins are to reduce the risks of heart attack and stroke. It then goes on to say that the drug is effective on patients who are classed as not being high risk, but may be smokers, have high blood pressure or are overweight. There are also claims of saving up to 10,000 lives a year, and preventing one third of all heart attacks, strokes and operations on blocked arteries. All this from a drug that would only cost 16 GBP a year per patient in the UK.

While the report does mention that there may be a “slight risk” of the onset of diabetes, it stops short of mentioning some of the even more serious side effects. Side effects range from cataracts, constipation, sexual dysfunction, memory loss, headaches and loss of appetite, to depression, loss of feeling in hands and feet and myopathy. Myopathy is a side effect that affects approximately 1 in every 1,000 users, resulting in pain and tenderness in muscle tissue. This leads to rhabdomyolysis, the breakdown of muscle cells, kidney failure and in some cases death.

Long term use linked to debilitating illness and higher profits

To prescribe statins for every person over the age of 50 in the UK would mean in excess of 20 million people taking these drugs resulting in 20,000 people with myopathy and becoming disabled or dying. This compared to the current number of heart attacks, means that twice the number of people will require hospital treatment. But the pharmaceutical companies will stand to make in excess of 320 million GBP from the UK alone. When put into that context, it is easy to see why this report has been published.

Forcing all people over the age of 50 to take a drug is fundamentally wrong. It flies in the face of the right of all people to choose what they put into their bodies and is an obvious con trick. The goal of the con is to make huge profits out of the industry that has been created around cholesterol levels. If the ratio of LDL to HDL cholesterol is a problem to a patient, it would cost the NHS nothing to prescribe a natural diet with lots of fresh raw fruits and vegetables, without red meat or processed foods. If combined with natural sources of soluble fiber, and daily exercise, the levels of cholesterol would decrease naturally without the need for expensive and dangerous drugs. It seems though that these drugs are aimed at those who want a low LDL to HDL ratio, but want to eat junk and do no exercise. Faced with either painful myopathy or exercising and eating healthy, surely the choice is obvious.

Heart disease is a “toothless paper tiger”

Action Alert: California legislature passes AB 2109, making it more difficult for parents to opt out of vaccines for their children

The medical establishment in California is quietly waging war against parental rights with a new legislative bill that will make it more difficult for parents to opt out of vaccines for their children. According to reports, the California State Assembly recently voted 44-19 to pass AB 2109, a bill that, if signed into law, will require that all parents who choose to opt their children out of vaccines for personal reasons obtain a signed waiver from a doctor of “health care practitioner” stating that they participated in an indoctrination session about the supposed health risks of not vaccinating.

Existing law in California allows all parents to exempt their children from “mandatory” vaccines for either personal or medical reasons. In the case of personal exemptions, parents simply must obtain a Personal Belief Exemption Form (PBEF) from their local health department’s Immunization Program, or from their children’s school, and submit it to the appropriate party in lieu of a proof of vaccination form (

But the California Medical Association (CMA), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the California Immunization Coalition (CIC), and many pro-vaccine doctors and assemblymen, including AB 2109 author Dr. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento), want to obstruct parental rights. Their goal is to make it as difficult as possible for parents to opt out of vaccines for their children in the hope that they will simply comply.

AB 2109 has received little media attention despite massive ramifications

One would think that with the drastic changes being proposed in the bill, AB 2109 would be all over the news. But that is hardly the case. With the exception of a billboard campaign arranged by the good people over at Age of Autism, the mainstream media has been largely silent on this important issue.

California has been a target of the pro-vaccine brigade for a while now as just last fall, the California legislature passed AB 499, which allows for secret administration of HPV vaccines (Gardasil, Cervarix) and other vaccines for sexually-transmitted diseases, without parental consent ( Now, authorities are trying to erode parents’ ability to freely decline having their children injected with toxic, chemical cocktails in the name of “science-based medicine.”

AB 2109 a ‘first step’ towards forced vaccinations

During arguments for why AB 2109 should be passed, Assembly Democrats argued that too many parents are choosing not to vaccinate their children, and that deadly diseases are making a comeback as a result. But as we have pointed out numerous times before, this ideology is flawed, as most alleged resurgences are occurring in vaccinated children rather than in unvaccinated children (

But the real kicker is how AB 2109 supporters alluded to the bill being a stepping stone towards eventual forced vaccinations. Assemblyman Charles Calderon (D-Whittier), for instance, is quoted by The Republic as saying that AB 2109 is a “first step” towards eliminating parental freedom to opt out of vaccines for their children.

The writing is on the wall, and it is time for health freedom advocates to step up and take action. According to California’s legislative information page, AB 2109 is headed next to the California State Senate, and if it passes there, it will proceed to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk to be signed.

Freezing makes little impact on nutritional content of fresh produce

A recent study examined the nutritional disparity between foods that were fresh, frozen, dried or canned. This study is particularly important when examining the cost value of a food product. Canned vegetables are generally much cheaper, and are therefore a more common choice for lower income households. Fresh vegetables have the highest price and the shortest shelf life. It is well known that economic divides reflect on dietary options, and can manifest distinct patterns of disease.

Terrestrial living; surrounded by kryptonite

There exists a natural bias towards fresh produce, as practical understanding recognizes that organic tissue decomposes, and the longer it sits on the shelf, the fewer nutrients it will retain by the time it is eaten. The thing that destroys nutrients is exposure to air and energy. Energy may come in the form of light or heat, but both similarly degrade the cellular structure of the vegetables. Heat famously destroys nutrients as well as the enzymes needed for the digestion of the remaining nutrients. Vitamin C and carotenoids are particularly vulnerable to heat damage.

While light is necessary for the plants to flourish in the first place, without the constant replacement of weakened cells (i.e., after the plant has been harvested, the cells stop being replaced, as the plant’s processes slowly die off), the tissue begin to fall apart. The process operates in the same manner as human cell turn over, leading to signs of aging. Oxidization is the main threat that limits the shelf life of fresh produce, as well as the lifespan of the human body. Even those fresh fruits and vegetables, with their abundant store of anti-oxidants, quickly fall victim to the constant exposure. Decomposition limits its lifespan, lowering market availability, and raising its price.

Finding cheaper nutrient sources for people on a tight budget

The study examined pinto beans, tomatoes, corn, spinach, green beans, mushrooms, peaches, pears and pumpkin. Some of these foods are not generally available in a dried or frozen form, and so were spared comparison. In addition to vitamins A and C, researchers measured folic acid, protein, fiber and potassium. These nutrients were studied because, despite their high availability in foods, their deficiencies are frequently cited as a contributing factor in illness at any age.

Convenience that doesn’t leave a mark

Researchers found that the price is far more greatly affected by the canning, freezing or drying than is the nutritional content. This is good news for raw food juicers, who can be assured that a weeks’ worth of juicing in one afternoon isn’t taking a big bite into their vitamin stores in exchange for a little convenience.

Obesity Is National Security Problem * FOOD NEWS *

The federal government has been progressively moving toward pronouncing obesity as a threat to the security of our nation. The First Lady has been the principal advocate of this. In December, 2010, she said in prepared remarks: “Military leaders tell us that when more than one in four young people are unqualified for military service because of their weight, childhood obesity isn’t just a public health threat, it’s not just an economic threat, it’s a national security threat as well.”

The next month, in January 2011, retired Major General Paul Monroe on CNN Radio said: “The military found that one in four recruits are not eligible because of weight,” he said. “And not everyone wants to be in the military, and when you reduce it by 25 percent, it’s a real problem.”

This has been a bipartisan effort. In November 2011, Bill Frist, a heart surgeon who was the Senate Majority Leader when Republicans ran that chamber, cited a 2010 study called “Too Fat To Fight,” when he said:

Childhood obesity is something much larger than something that just hurts and pulls back and restrains our economic strength. It threatens our security, our national security as a nation. Between 1995 and 2008, over 140,000 potential military recruits failed their entrance physicals, failed them because they were too heavy. That’s 140,000 young men and women who were motivated enough to enlist but, because of being overweight, could not. They were the ones who wanted to serve their country, who were willing to put themselves in harm’s way, and they were told, “No, you’re too heavy to safely be trained.”

We hear the quotations all the time from people who are right on the front line. Retired four star U.S. Army General Johnny Wilson said that childhood obesity, and I quote,”‘has become so serious in this country that military leaders are viewing this epidemic as a potential threat to our national security,” end quotation.

Then in February of this year, the Pentagon said that it considered obesity a national security issue because it was harder to find fit recruits. The Department of Defense announced that, for the first time in two decades, it was changing the diet of the military. The new plan is intended to have more fruits, vegetables, and grains. This would not only affect meals served at 1,100 dining facilities, but also vending machines.

On May 7, 2012, White House chef Sam Kass, who is also the healthy-eating policy advisor to Michelle Obama and the White House, got into the act, stating to a group of healthcare officials that obesity threatens our national security:

What motivates us is not just the fact that one in three Americans will have diabetes in their lifetime if we don’t change course, but the impact that it is having on our economy, on our health care system or our kids’ ability to learn, It’s not just the fact that obesity may be our nation’s greatest national security threat, although all those reasons are of vital importance…. This is our life’s work. The first lady dedicated her time and passion at the White House because this issue meant most to her as a mother and as an American.

But the arguments are mainly specious fearmongering. First, the claims are based on the notion that all the rejected applicants are beyond help. They are not fit to be soldiers — so to speak. But the Army could do what it has considered doing in the past: offering a “fat camp” to overweight applicants to get them in shape for boot camp. The Army already offers courses so that prospective soldiers can get their GEDs and enlist. (Maybe everyone should be required to go to school to solve this problem because a lack of learning is a “national security concern” — oh wait, Americans are already required to attend school.) The Army also offers two-week camps to people who are already in the Army and become fat after enlistment — it’s called Operation Fit Warrior.

The fears also assume that more Americans will become obese in the future and not be available to enlist and that the pool of military candidates cannot be improved through some other method, such as better pay and less chance of dying or being maimed in wars that seem to have little to do with our national security.

Unless the wash-out standards for the armed forces are watered down — and that is not being suggested by anyone — then national defense is not being adversely affected by the paunchiness of most Americans.

Too, these arguments seem to suggest a federal right to meddle in the most basic of human decisions: what to eat and, perhaps, when to exercise. The choice of what to eat is very near to those basic civic rights described by the Founding Fathers when they defined the purposes of government as protecting our individual rights to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” People have known for many hundreds of years that diet is connected with health and that a combination of eating too much and exercising too little leads to health problems. But even the most cursory perusal of people who live past 100 includes men and women who smoke, drink, and live as they choose. Indeed, individual autonomy seems to be an excellent predictor of long term health.

If health gurus are looking for a method to promote healthy lifestyles, they might be better served encouraging their countrymen to be much more religious. Orthodox Jews, Catholic nuns and priests, and devout Christians of all denominations naturally eschew as sins things such as drunkenness, gluttony, and sloth. Those Americans who take their Christian or Jewish faith most seriously have a very significant advantage, as the Gallup Poll showed in a 2010 study, which found that the “very religious” were more likely to exercise regularly, eat much fruits and vegetables, and abstain from smoking. The “moderately religious” scored lower in every category than the “very religious” but better in every category than the “nonreligious.”

When Gallup expanded its study in 2011 to include not only “Physical Health Index,” but “Life Evaluation Index,” “Emotional Health Index,” “Healthy Behaviors Index” and “Work Environment Index,” the very religious scored significantly better than both the moderately religious and the nonreligious except in the “Physical Health Index,” in which the very religious scored 77.5 and the nonreligious scored 78.1 and the very religious scored better than the moderately religious in virtually every area of the survey.

Perhaps instead of lecturing Americans about how to live, our “leaders” — the First Lady, the former Senate Majority Leader, and the military officers — should be entreating their countrymen to read the Bible, pray daily, and go to church or synagogue every week. This divinely inspired system of healthy living works remarkably well and it has for thousands of years. Perhaps, though, we should not hold our breath waiting for statist collectivists to turn our attention away from them and toward God.

Eliminate and reverse BPA toxicity

There have been several obscure studies performed and written up that have discovered natural nutrients that fight BPA toxicity. Bisphenol-A (BPA) has become epidemic in our plastic reliant society. It not only affects our current population, but there is also evidence that it is passed on to newborns as well. In the USA, Big Brother refuses to fix this. We have to become educated, limit our use of plastics and other BPA products personally. Then, take advantage of the accessible nutrients that restrict BPA damage.

About BPA

BPA is an endocrine disrupter. It is a synthetic estrogen mimicker. Hormonal disruption or imbalance leads to infertility, sexual and gender identity problems, diabetes, and even cancer.

It is used in most plastic bottles, the inner linings of beverage and food cans, inks for store receipts, printers and paper money, and some cosmetics and clothing apparel. Even the CDC reported in 2004 that BPA has appeared in the urine of over 90% tested.

This was a cross sectional study limited to under 3000 tested. Though the CDC presumed this indicated a widespread BPA presence in the entire population, they refused to say BPA was toxic.

However, several scientists and health professionals have discovered and confirmed BPA’s health hazards over the past decade. So far, the FDA hasn’t done anything about it. Canada was the first nation to ban some BPA products in 2010, and some EU nations have followed that lead.

Taking care of yourself by yourself

Avoid all the items listed above as much as possible. Some plastic and canned goods food processors are beginning to promote their product packaging as BPA free. Look for those and avoid the rest. Receipts, printer ink, and paper money are another issue. If your job requires handling those items, wear gloves.

Here are the nutrients that can reduce or eliminate BPA toxicity from your body:

* Bifidobacterium 3
* Bifidobacterium Breve
* Lactobacillus casei
* Bacillus pumilus
* Melatonin (helps you sleep well too)
* Probiotics
* Black Tea
* Fermented Foods and Beverages (try making your own kefirs)
* Kimchi (a Korean fermented food)
* Quercetin
* Royal Jelly
* Folic Acid (folate is the best source)
* Genistein (a supplement)

These have been discovered or confirmed by at least one in vitro (lab glass) study or in vivo (animal/human) study. A few have been covered by more than one study.

The most commonly tested items are specific probiotic strains, such as the first four listed, or probiotics in general and fermented foods. So obviously whatever supplies probiotics in high numbers is critical. If you buy probiotic supplements, you can see which bacteria strains are available on the labels.

There are ways to create fermented foods and milk kefir (raw milk is ideal) or water kefir (with purified water). You’ll have to search the internet for those sources. Or if you are in or near a network that cooperates with providing kefir starter grains, look into that. It’s the least expensive route for consuming lots of probiotics.

Antibiotics destroy all kinds of bacteria, including the good guys or probiotics. Avoid pharmaceutical antibiotics as much as possible. But beware of taking in antibiotics indirectly through factory farm meats and non-organic dairies. Factory farm livestock are injected with antibiotics to prevent infection from overcrowded and unsanitary conditions.

Apparently, the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has decided to investigate into the dangers of BPA because of public reaction to numerous independent tests conducted internationally.

Don’t hold your breath for the EPA. Be proactive and take action yourself.
